Back in the early 1990′s, I worked with Peachpit Press to provide discounted books to 3 local user groups in the DFW area. I sold enough books that I was even able to attend a Peachpit party at San Francisco Macworld Expo one year. Of course, since then there have been a lot of changes in the publishing industry. Our first vendor in the new Vendor Resource Center is Smile Software. Of course, Smile is always one of the first in doing anything to support Macintosh User Groups. They have a great program that providing presentations via iChat/Skype and provides product to user groups for special uses.

My friend Lesa Snider has some exciting things going on. Lesa is past president of the Cowtown MUG here in Fort Worth and was on the User Group Advisory Board for quite awhile. She is planning on a 7 night river cruise from Budapest to Nuremberg with a 2 -night Prague-add on available. This is a photograph journey with classes on “Taking Better Pictures with Any Cameras” well as “Editing with Photoshop Elements and iPhoto ’11.”

When I was program chair for user groups, I always had a back up plan to use when a vendor didn’t show up as scheduled. At times, that involved having a program ready for me to present. Such topics as “Mac Utilities”, “Trouble Shooting the Mac” and “Keeping your Mac Healthy” were easy for me to do at a drop of the hat in those days.
