Basic Terminal Commands

This is an old article on a blog, but one I hadn’t seen and even those of us who started on Apple DOS or PCDOS and have some idea what Terminal commands should look like will find this useful.  However even those of us who stated that way can be intimidated by being in the Terminal application for Mac OS X. NewSourceMedia blog has an article on the basic terminal commands to get you started.

It starts out with the Change Directory command which is cd.  With it, it is possible to go to Desktop, the home folder or other folders. (Directories)

I do remember using similar commands under Apple DOS and CP/M operating systems as well as PC/MS DOS later.

Toward the end of the article, the man command is covered.  man stands for manual and actually prints a description of the command.  man rm gives info about the rm command.  I think a similar command was available in PC/MS Dos, but I don’t remember it in either Apple DOS or CP/M.

Of course, the comments add to the instruction.

BTW – wouldn’t this make a good possible topic for a MUG meeting?
