One more note about Steve
Few others could monopolize the media waves quite like Steve Jobs has … and is. I know you’ve read a thousand posts, tweets, blogs and articles about yesterday’s sad news; but here’s one more.
This, being a user group community publication growing out of roots set in 1984, and Steve Jobs’ introduction of the first Macintosh, we obviously would not even be writing this today if it weren’t for the two Steves. Apple, the company, the machine(s) and the community owe everything to Steve.
Steve Jobs had been battling pancreatic cancer since 2004. After his third and final leave of absence in January 2011, he resigned as CEO in August. Like his life, his battle against cancer was remarkable. Many from the ‘old time’ user group community remember Jim Alley, from the Savannah Mac User Group. His bout with pancreatic cancer lasted less than a year.
So, herein I’ve included some of my favorite resources in the wake of Steve’s death.
Steve Jobs Has Died
Mashable’s Charlie White writes :
Steve Jobs, co-founder, chairman of the board, former CEO of Apple and industry icon for decades, has died.
Apple released this statement:
We are deeply saddened to announce that Steve Jobs passed away today.
Steve’s brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve.
His greatest love was for his wife, Laurene, and his family. Our hearts go out to them and to all who were touched by his extraordinary gifts. ![]()

Steve Jobs: Goodbye to an Icon
Mashable’s Lance Ulanoff writes :
It felt like I’d been slapped in the face. There it was: On Twitter. In my email. On a phone call. Steve Jobs, the tech industry’s one true icon, was gone – taken from us far too soon, at the age of 56.
Say what you will about the dynamic maverick who built and rebuilt Apple over the course of four decades, but Steve Jobs was a visionary. A maker of things. A doer who intimately understood the excitement of a new product. How the interchange of 1s and 0s could produce a sublime piece of software. ![]()

Look no farther than Cupertino
Google’s Sergey Brin writes :
From the earliest days of Google, whenever Larry and I sought inspiration for vision and leadership, we needed to look no farther than Cupertino. Steve, your passion for excellence is felt by anyone who has ever touched an Apple product (including the macbook I am writing this on right now). And I have witnessed it in person the few times we have met. ![]()

Steve, thank you

Memories Of Steve Jobs: Interviews & Inspiration
Chris Taylor writes in this Mashable column :
Here’s how a typical press interview with Steve Jobs used to go in the early 2000s. You wouldn’t be immediately ushered into his presence; you would be passed from PR person to PR person, corridor to corridor, waiting at each step, until you reached the inner sanctum. ![]()
