Beer pitcher inspires Apple’s future iPhone

One day, if Apple follows through on work embodied in a recent patent application, you’ll be able to “pour” data from your iPhone into an iPad lying on a table below it Or, with the flick of the wrist, you’ll “throw” photos and videos from your iPod touch onto your desktop Mac’s display. Or you’ll gently blow a file to a close friend.
This user-interface wackiness – and more – is described in “Intuitive, gesture-based communications with physics metaphors”, a patent application filed in January of last year and published this Thursday.

Verizon Claims a Third of iPhone 4s

If you subscribe to the theory that most potential iPhone buyers on Verizon have held out on purchasing a device till the new model launches this fall, then this statistic should surprise you: 32 percent of all current iPhone 4 users in the U.S. are on the Verizon network.
Yep, that’s right. Research firm Localytics released data Thursday that shows the device has shown steady growth since its launch on the Verizon network in February. The iPhone 4 started out on the right foot rather quickly, quickly grabbing 20 percent of the market early on, but its real growth has been over the summer.

3G iPod Touch 5 or iPhone 4S? September?

iPod touch 5 rumors — Given that Apple has delayed the launch of the iPhone 5 and the rumor mill suggesting it will be landing in September, this surprisingly hasn’t changed the views of industry insiders regarding the arrival date of the iPod touch 5.
Given that next-generation iPod touch model usually launch in September, 2011 isn’t expected to be any different and an iPod touch 5 is expected to be unveiled in the coming months.

Apple snags 50% of handset industry (100M iPhone year)

n less than four years, Apple went from not making a dime on handset sales to commanding approximately half of the industry’s profits, and is now poised to set the bar even higher by shipping 100 million iPhones over a 12-month span, financial experts say.
Although smartphones running Google’s Android OS continue to gain share of total smartphone units sold, when it comes to profits, Apple remains the undisputed king, raking in roughy 50% of the entire handset industry’s net earnings during the first quarter of 2011, according to Canaccord Genuity analyst T. Michael Walkley. (WITH CHARTS)
