With iOS 4.2, Apple introduced AirPrint to its iPod touch, iPad and iPhone OS. Last list I saw showed about 30 HP printers and a few Epson printers that supported AirPrint. However, do we really want to spend the cash to purchase new printers?
Printopia is a Macintosh application that you install. Once installed, all of the printers your Mac can use, local or networked, can then be used by you iOS device.
The list of available printers will also included a “Send to Mac” and a “Send to Dropbox on Mac” to use the virtual printer feature. That allows the image of the document to be saved in jpeg or pdf format. It will even work with PowerPC Mac as long as they are running Leopard (Mac OS X 10.5).
There is a 7 day demo, so you can make sure it does what you want before you purchase.

Note: There is also a free app for Macintosh and Windows call AirPrint Activator, but I wasn’t able to get it to work on my Mac. I don’t have a Windows machine to try it on. And today, I couldn’t find the Windows version. The Mac version is free so give it a try.
