I admit that I have been lax in reading Research Buzz lately. I mentioned it on occasion since 1998. In an article called “Kickstarting a Collection of Public Domain Classical Music.” Research Buzz talks last September a new open source project called Musopen.
While the first paragraph talks about the funding project it is more interesting to talk about the actual project. Just as the Gutenberg Project provided a great source of reading material with public domain books as text files. And just as Librivox took those books and now have most of them provided as free audio recordings in MP3 format, The Musopen is providing us with MP3s of classical music.
You must register with the site, http://www.musopen.com/, but once you do you have free classical music available.
You can however read Researh Buzz at: http://www.researchbuzz.org/r/?p=2281
Check out this article and other available on the researchbuzz.org web site.
I haven’t figured out how to get the sheet music, but the sound files are available for free at the rate of 4 per day. But a $4/month subscript will allow unlimited downloading.
Check it out.
