Attack of the Mac Emulators: Retro Games on OS X

This article from last April, by Joshua Johnson reminds us about the good times by telling us of Nintendo and Playstation emulators for the Macintosh.
Of course at one point there was a commercial emulator of the Playstation, not only for the Mac but also for the PC.

Today when we hear about emulators on the Mac, we usually think of using Parallels or Fusion to run a Windows emulator on the Mac. However, when we start talking about these game machines the problem comes of with the legality of coping the cartridges. The game companies and probably the authorities will likely agree that this is illegal.

The author goes into more detail on these issues.

He then goes on and talks about web sites where these old games are available for download.

Some of the game systems mentioned in the article, are

1) Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) which is emulated by RockNES – 4.0 and Nestopia. For the PowerPC, there is iNES which is one of the most complete systems according to the author.

2) Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) has as its emulator – SNES9x (probably the best)

There are several more emulators mentioned, but you should read about them yourself.
