Google’s New Two-Factor Authentication Application

The two-factor authentication is something that in a way protects your phone from becoming a victim of external interference like phishing or hijacking among other things. Google too recently made an announcement about two-factor authentication. This does not come as a surprise because almost every gadget you lay hands on these days, especially your smart phones and other online accounts under your possession, needs to be authenticated for secure usage.
      Take the case of your smart phones, especially the ones which might have come to you from abroad. Not easy to break their code, is it?

A peek into Google’s anti-malware operation

Speaking of Google … they to great lengths to secure its users from threats lurking on the Web, because a half-hearted effort would soon drive them out of business.
      But, during his presentation at the SecTOR security conference in Toronto, Google security researcher Fabrice Jaubert revealed that sometimes even seemingly good methods are thwarted by careless users.

Senators accuse Google of “phishing for profit”

Senate Committee points to double standard. Google’s Australian head of public policy has told a Senate Committee that customers need to either trust the company is doing the right thing with user data or switch to other services.
      In an extended session today, two Google public policy executives faced pointed – if not hostile – questions from politicians concerned about Google’s use of contextual targeting on its popular Gmail and search platforms.

New digital German ID cards arrive on November 1

New national ID cards are coming to Germany. The new cards boast features designed to safeguard against the hazards of the Internet age, including phishing and identity theft, but critics say there are still problems.
      On November 1, the German government is rolling out the latest incarnation of the German national ID card, the so-called electronic ID, or EID. The new cards contain a microchip using radio frequency identification technology, or RFID. This technology is already widely used in security systems for various buildings, as well as by retailers to inventory goods.

Targeted Malware Attacks Surge in Retail Sector

Security software vendor Symantec’s MessageLabs Intelligence report for October found an alarming increase in so-called spear-phishing attacks in the retail industry as scam artists incessantly targeted small groups of employees and executives at a pair of top-tier retailers.
      The report, which also found that one in 488 emails sent in October was a phishing attack aimed at stealing either passwords, login credentials or other personal information, said that these coordinated phishing campaigns have surged from one or two cases a week just five years ago to more than 70 a day this month.
