StumbleUpon

The original web site that gave you random new sites was one called “Roulette.com.” Of course, today that is a gaming industry site. StumbleUpon did it one better with Firefox plug-in that let people recommend specific sites by category and thus narrows down the area of search.

Today, I “stumbleupon” a Facebook page that promotes this product. In the Info page it actually lists the different versions. One of course for FireFox, one for Chrome and one for Internet Explorer.

Two things I found surprising. The first was one that they didn’t mention one for Safari. I know that on an earlier version of Safari I had a plug-in for it. The other surprise was that they have a version that doesn’t require an install at all. That is, it is a “cloud” app.

The cloud version has some different features. You can of course still tell StumbleUpon that you like a site. But now you can also send your friends on Facebook and your followers on Twitter about the site you’re on by clicking a button on the tool bar.

Something else you want to do on the Facebook site is look at the Photos. It includes a photo album called “100 Things You Might Not Know About StumbleUpon”

The Facebook page is at: http://www.facebook.com/pages/StumbleUpon/6129039822?v=info

The no installation site is at: http://www.stumbleupon.com/su/
