Report: DOJ inquiry of Apple goes beyond music
The federal government’s inquiry into Apple’s business practices isn’t restricted to digital music, according to a published report.
According to several sources, the Justice Dept. has contacted a handful of the country’s biggest media and technology companies to get their views on Apple, which, after years of casting itself as the tiny outsider, has become an 800-pound gorilla calling the shots in several arenas.

Apple iPad offers ‘freedom from porn’ – but not in Berlin
Apple’s Steve Jobs famously offered us ‘freedom from porn’ in his ongoing war with Adobe Flash on the iPhone and iPad. But notoriously liberal Berlin has a different take on the matter, perhaps offering us freedom from being told what to do by Apple’
Billboards announcing the arrival of the iPad on Friday have been going up all over Berlin, but one of them in the subway station of Rosenthaler Platz is quite different to the rest. As you can see from the images in this article, the iPad appears to be about to offer an entirely new experience of porn.

Analyst says Apple to make 2.5M iPads per month
Apple Inc. is ramping up production of its iPad computers and by this summer could be making more than 2.5 million of them each month to support the device’s international launch and back-to-school shopping, an analyst said Tuesday.
Sterne, Agee & Leach analyst Vijay Rakesh wrote in a note to clients that the firm’s checks with memory-chip makers indicate that Apple could double its iPad production between the June and September quarters to meet robust demand.

Why pay for extra 3G service for your iPad
If you’ve already got an iPhone and you’re thinking about whether or not to get the iPad with 3G, you may want to consider tethering your current phone instead. Apple’s iPad with 3G option is an extra $130 plus a monthly service fee, costs you may be able to apply toward a larger internal hard drive capacity or a fancy case, if you’re willing to do a little extra work to get 3G on your iPad.
Now, before you get started, you will need to know that there are a few downsides to enabling your iPhone to tether your existing 3G service.

Yankees ban iPad
The Yankees wouldn’t let this fan bring her iPad into Yankee Stadium.
Actually, they won’t let anyone bring their cool new toy through the gates. I called over to the Yankees’ security department to confirm this story and was told that the ban is true. All iPads fall under the “no laptops” rule in its existing security policy and are not allowed at Yankee Stadium.

3G Roaming Ripoffs Follow Apple iPad
Whether you’re traveling for business or pleasure, a little planning lets you take your iPad with you without going broke.
Carriers typically offer roaming for the iPad 3G, as they do for other mobile data devices. But they’re exorbitant: AT&T, for example, charges $25 per month for a mere 20MB of data and $200 per month for 200MB for international roaming (even in Canada).

Apple Invites Authors to Self-Publish on iPad Bookstore
Getting a book deal isn’t easy (I can personally vouch for that), and Apple is now an alternative to the traditional publisher. The company this week opened a new portal for independent authors to self-publish their books for the iBooks Store open to iPad (and soon iPhone) customers.
Apple’s iTunes Connect program has a section where authors can self-publish their work under certain formatting requirements, MacLife first reported. Basically, the books must be made in the ePub format like the rest of the offerings in the iBooks Store.
