Apple: iPad 3G Coming on April 30
Apple on Tuesday announced the iPad 3G will start shipping to customers on Friday, April 30, and will be available at Apple Store retail locations the same day.
The announcement ends the mystery surrounding when Cupertino would make the 3G + Wi-Fi version of the iPad available to customers. Earlier this week, it was discovered that current iPad 3G pre-orders would not arrive on doorsteps until May 7, which set off some concern that all 3G iPad shipments would be delayed.

iPad gets an ‘okay’ from Microsoft’s Bill Gates
BILL Gates – chairman of Microsoft – has given a lukewarm endorsement to Apple’s iPad, saying the new tablet device was “OK”.
Asked by the San Francisco Chronicle’s Phil Bronstein if he liked the iPad, Mr Gates replied: ‘It’s OK. The scenarios aren’t that clear. But it’s good looking,” Mr Gates said. “(Steve Jobs) does good design, and (the iPad) is absolutely a good example of that.’

Tablet torah: Apple iPad iS iLlegal iN iSrael
Think twice about traveling to Israel with an Apple iPad tablet. iPads are being confiscated from travelers and import shipments are being held at customs.
It seems there’s a problem with Wi-Fi interference. In IT Blogwatch, bloggers make lame puns about stone tablets.

26 Percent of Wired’s Mobile Traffic Comes From the iPad
Less than three weeks after its launch, Apple’s iPad already accounts for 26 percent of the mobile devices accessing Wired.com. Overall, mobile devices account for between 2.3 percent and 3.5 percent of our traffic. For April 3 to 19, iPad users represented 0.91 percent of total site traffic.
But with the launch of the iPad on April 3, it seems that many iPhone users have picked up iPads – and are finding them a good way to browse this site. The sudden jump in iPad users is matched by a declining share of iPhone and iPod Touch users, which suggests that most iPad customers are people who were already accustomed to mobile browsing with an Apple handheld, and are trading up to a bigger screen – rather than coming from another platform.

Awesome iPad Video Apps: A Brighter Future For Apple TV?
Among the Apple iPad’s biggest early successes are all the excellent video streaming apps that companies have made for it.

The Flash fracas between Adobe and Apple (FAQ)
The face-off between Apple and Adobe Systems concerning Flash on the iPhone and iPad is a perfect fit for today’s world of fanboys and flame wars. But beneath the surface, it’s not all as simple as it seems…
There are plenty convenient rhetorical points for those who want to find a place in the debate: Apple exerts draconian control over its walled garden. Flash is a buggy, insecure, resource hog. Apple is taking a stand for the betterment of the Web. Apple is inflicting a crippled Web on its customers for its selfish ends.

American man loses Apple iPad and pinky finger during bag snatching
An American man, Bill Jordan, lost most of his little finger after the brazen thief snatched his brand new Apple iPad from his hands.
Mr Jordan, who lives in the suburb of Aurora east in Denver, told how the cord of the bag wrapped around his left hand because of its weight. The thief “completely blindsided” him and ripped the bag out of his hand, stripping the flesh of Jordan’s finger down to the bone.

Will iPad cannibalize Mac sales?
Clearly Apple is preparing for such a circumstance… The question isn’t if iPad will cannibalize Mac sales but when. If the cannibals are coming, they’ll first strike during back-to-school buying season.
Apple CFO Peter Oppenheimer tipped off the company’s thinking early in the conference call: “We expect gross margins to be about 36 percent down from 41.7 percent in the March quarter and reflecting approximately $36 million related to stock based compensation expense. We expect about 25 percent of the sequential gross margin decline to be driven by the first quarter of iPad sales.” Whoa, one-quarter?

iPad gold rush? There are apps for that
Baltimore companies, developers take early shot at iPad apps … While Apple Inc. is enjoying the early success of its iPad tablet computer, the tech giant has once again captured the imagination of those looking to make a buck from its latest gadget.
Among them are the creative workers at Fastspot, a Baltimore interactive design firm that built a new digital game for the device months before they even had it in hand.

Apple’s iPad isn’t unbeatable
Top companies like Hewlett-Packard Co. and Google Inc. planning to come out with tablet computers have a lot of work ahead of them if they want to compete with and beat Apple Inc.’s popular iPad device.
Google’s plan for a tablet came out this week after CEO Eric Schmidt reportedly revealed some details during a party with friends. The New York Times reported Schmidt’s slip that Google is experimenting with an Android-based device.

Apple iPad: a skeptic’s review
I didn’t intend to get an iPad. For a start, I’m in the UK, and – even before the recent news that Apple would be delaying the tablet’s international release – there’s no sign of them at my local Apple Store.
Beyond that, though, while I could appreciate the design and the glowing feedback Vincent proffered from the iPad’s launch, it just didn’t seem like the device for me. And yet, when on Saturday April 3rd my US colleagues asked “would you like us to send you one?” I said yes. Since it arrived, around two weeks ago, I’ve gone through marvelling at the industrial design, puzzling over how to fit it into my daily routine, and finally – perhaps grudgingly – recognising its strengths (and, of course, its weaknesses).
