By now we have gotten used to talking about kilobytes, gigabytes and even for some terabytes. But do we really know what it means? And what comes next?
James S. Huggins’ Refrigerator Door web site has a very good description of all the above list as well as what comes later.
One example he gives of Terabyte is: 1 Terabyte: Automated tape robot; all the X-ray films in a large technological hospital; 50,000 trees made into paper and printed; daily rate of EOS (Earth Orbiting System) data (1998)
But the additional amounts are: Petabyte, Exabyte, Zettabyte and Yottabyte.
