Apple Tablet: Truth or Rumor?

The news channels have ramped up again with a number of mentions of an impending Apple Mac tablet based computer. It’s what I’ve dreamed about for some years, and it would seem, we’re getting closer!

Apple Tablet: Inexpensive

Chris Barylick of AppleInsider says “If it came from the rumor mill, the really awesome parts must be true.” We’ll see

According to Barylick in his recent column:

Internet and television personality Alex Albrecht claimed to have insight on the price of Apple’s rumored tablet during the latest episode of Diggnation, which also featured actor John Hodgman from Apple’s “Get a Mac” commercials.

Apple tablet on the way?

A tablet is what I’ve been looking for, and if this unit does materialize by June Oh-ten, it might be one to try out!
According to the PowerPage, price predictions for the tablet have varied with some guesses placing it around US$500, to compete with the low-cost netbook market. Others have predicted its price would be comparable to a MacBook at around US$1,000. Another recent rumor placed a supposed OLED screen equipped version of the hardware at US$2,000 retail.

“TabletMac” Trademark

Arnold Kim says:

A few years ago, Axiotron began to offer an aftermarket modification for the MacBook notebook that converted it into a tablet. The modification remains for sale at US$699 and takes a stock MacBook, removes the keyboard and screen, and adds a Wacom pen-based screen to give the device a tablet form factor.

Now, a number of the news mills are reporting Apple snooping for an appropriate trademark for a teblet-based Mac. Hmmmmmmmmm
Arnold Kim of Rumors adds: not so sure Apple would really use this term for the rumored device, as the most recent reports have suggested.

Rumors, rumors, rumors

In Eric Slivka’s report, iLounge is saying that it has received a number of tips about Apple’s much rumored tablet computer from the same source who tipped off the site about the fifth-generation iPod nano.
The source claims that the tablet device will sport a 10.7″ screen offering a resolution in the neighborhood of 720p, will run iPhone OS rather than Mac OS X, and should be announced on or before January 19th, 2010 for release in May or June of 2010.
