The Wall Street Journal is saying that the Walt Disney Co. is close to unveiling technology that will enable consumers to watch movies on various devices such as computers and cell phones. This will replace DVD players and TVs while allowing consumers to pay a fair price for both sides.
The technology would redefine ownership as access rights, not physical possession.
Basically consumers would have the right to re-down from a website where media is assigned to them. Disney plans on unveiling the technology next month.
This could be a very major change in how we purchase movies.
