Last week Intel demoed a new technology for moving data across wires. It uses light to transmit data at up to 10 Gb/second.
According to MacRumors, the Apple came up with the idea for the process, then asked Intel to do the development. According to the video presentations included either with the original article or in the comment section, the speed goes both directions at once at that speed. It also is compatible with all the current connectors. USB, Firewire, video, audio and more.
This sounds really exciting. Especially when the speeds calculates out to the ability to transfer a BlueRay video in 30 seconds.
