I have been around Apple computers since 1980. I took a class in “Structured Programming” that loaded AppleSoft off a cassette tape as the programming language for the Apple II. But that experience was enough to convince me to get an Apple ][+ in 1981. (The plus indicated that AppleSoft was in ROM.)
Our friends over at MacLife has an nostalgic look at Apple’s pre OS X days. They mention the rainbow colored logo, the Think Different poster campaign, the 5.25 inch floppies, Hal and much more.

Even though they made fun of me in issue #3 or 4, I still think that Mac Addict was a better publication than MacLife. (I asked them for 40 magazines to give away at my MUG at the time. It certainly was something that other computer magazines was doing. They published my letter and said something smart. ) Of course, since Jason Snell took over, MacWorld has been much more aimed at the user than they once were. I not only credit Jason with this, but also the friendly competition from this publication.
