As any long term computer user can tell you, we normally use only 20-30% of an application’s features. We get comfortable with what we are doing and don’t expand our knowledge any further.
MacTips has a pretty good article on using Address Book.
As they say: “The Mac OS X Address Book is a neat little application that is often under-appreciated. As a seemingly boring application it has loads of features that are overlooked by most users. While useful on its own for organising your contacts, Address Book’s real power is that it works with so many other applications. Here are a few tips to save you time and let you make the most of Address Book.”
Then the author goes on and talks about Adding Contacts to your Safari Bookmarks, how Address Book integrates with iChat and putting Contacts into Spotlight’s index.
An interesting side note on that last one is that “Spotlight remembers files that people have sent you.”
Another tip mentioned is how to tell what groups your contact is in: “If you hold down the Option key while you are viewing a contact, all the groups that they are in are highlighted in a lovely yellow.”
Another tips is getting a map of the Contact’s address. There is also a Google maps plug in available for Address Book.
There is more and of course, the commenters add a few more. So you will want to read it all.
See it all here.
