From the title, I thought this would be a list of compression software. But is actually a short list of decompression programs.
Back in classik we nearly all used Unstuffit as our free uncompressor. Now, not many people use the Stuffit format and most files we get are “zipped.”
The first one listed is The Unarchiver
This is one I have used for sometime but I have seldom needed to actually compress files myself.
7zX handles the 7z archive file format including tar, zip, gzip, bzip2, UNIX compress, 7z, s7z and various kinds of segmented archives.
unrarx is another free Mac application that allows you to expand rar archives and restore corrupted or missing archives using par2.
