Remembering Macintosh

In the spirit of the kickoff of the documentary “Welcome to Macintosh – The documentary for the rest of us”, we’re revisiting just a few of the videos on YouTube about the evolution of the Mac.

Steve Jobs demos Apple Macintosh, 1984

Who would have guessed that Apple would be where it is today — way back when Steve Jobs introduced the first Apple Macintosh in January 1984. In attendance were only 3000 people. Andy Hertzfeld captured the moment quite well in his retelling:

“Pandemonium reigns as the demo completes. Steve has the biggest smile I’ve ever seen on his face, obviously holding back tears as he is overwhelmed by the moment. The ovation continues for at least five minutes before he quiets the crowd down.”

Following that introduction, the Mac community was launched. Another signature of Apple and Steve Jobs was the creative TV commercial. Not only was Apple breaking records in computing innovation — they also introduced the world to a new kind of advertising: intelligent advertising.

Although Mac occupies a scant 5% of the computing world — that’s a lot of innovation breakthroughs and happy users.
