You Software has announced the 1.3 version of its software that is meant to improve on Mac OS X Spaces software. As you probably know, Spaces gives your Mac virtual desktops.
The You Control Software adds features to Spaces to make it easier to know which desktop you are using. It also works with Tiger, which Apple’s Spaces is a Leopard only product.
It makes it easier to understand where you are by;
Custom Backgrounds
Using different background pictures on each desktop lets you know at a glance which desktop you are working on.
Desktop File Sets
Each desktop can have a unique set of desktop files, allowing you to have true “work” spaces.
Easy Menu Bar Access
See each desktop in the menu bar and access them directly. The menu provides powerful configuration options.
Unlimited Desktops
Create any number of desktops you want. 3, 5, 17? However many suit your needs.
Spaces only has 16 possible. Of course without the naming and menu features of you control: desktop, you would have extreme difficulty in following that number.
Endlessly Configurable
Everything in You Control: Desktops is configurable, giving you the power to take control of your desktops.
Visual Transitions
Nine slick transitions are not just great eye candy; they also help you see to which desktop you are switching.
Hot Keys
Easily switch desktops by assigning any hot key you want to each desktop.
Window Management
Windows can easily be moved between desktops, either by using the palette or dragging to the edge of your screen.
Named Desktops
Having trouble remembering desktop 7 is your email desktop? Give it a name so you can quickly find it.
Tiger Compatible
Built using the same system underpinnings as Spaces, but fully compatible with Mac OS 10.4 Tiger as well.
IMHO, this is a very useful addition to Spaces and Apple should provide it to us in Snow Leopard if not sooner.
