Jobs a no-show, Apple pulling out — will Woz be enough? Will IDG ask for help? This will be interesting to follow as the saga of Macworld unfolds…
Ever since Mitch Hall sold out to IDG, Macworld has been in a downward spiral. IDG seems to screw up anything / everything it touches. The beginning of the end was back when some brain child moved Macworld to New York. As soon as Apple pulled out — that was the end of East Coast Macworlds.
Now, Apple is pulling out of the San Francisco Macworld, and if the writing is on the wall, it reads ‘the end’ of Macworld. Apple has also decreed that Jobs has given his last keynote address at Macworld in San Francisco, that everyone will have to be satisfied with Phil Schiller for the keynote. Although Apple representative Steve Dowling declined to comment on Jobs’ health, it is cause for pause that Jobs would pass up the obvious opportunity to play God. Surely, ill health rumors cannot be far behind.
The next pink slip also came from Apple, announcing that this year would be the LAST for Apple at Macworld in San Francisco. (cnet.com) The beginning of the end.
Will the Woz be enough?
Blogs are buzzing that Steve Wozniak plans to make appearance at Macworld — but not for Apple. But I doubt that even the Woz can forstall the demise of the Mecca for Maccers. He will be representing one of his companies. (macnn.com)
IDG plans to hold on
Buzz has it that they plan a town hall at Expo next week to discuss the future of the event. But, just as we’ve watched the excitement and floor space diminish — I’m sure they’ll be asking for the “community” to help out. (macnn.com)
So turn your sights toward WWDC — my bet is on that venue taking over the ‘big event’ role in the lives of the rest of us.
