IMHO: Your voice heard

I don't know if you've noticed, but I sure have. My Apple Mail "Junk" box has now diminished to about 8 to 15 spams per day -- down from 150 to 200. NOW is the time to gather your members and join me in a push to let internet users' voices be heard. Read this important message from Fred...

To all user group officers, editors and members:

I've guarded my Apple Mail (unpublished) address since changing it when I first switched from Eudora to Apple Mail. Only family and clients use it. I thought I would be safe from spammers.

Over the months, because of rogue registrars, botnets and domain kiting, the spam began to contaminate the address. It began to become as much of a misery as my "showker" addresses at my various web sites. But this morning there were only 8 to report in my 24-hour period reporting to Knujon and SpamCop. That's a major accomplishment.

Why the sudden drop in spam?

NOT because of blocking, NOT because of spam filters. This remarkable event is all because of the diligent work of HostExploit.com, SpamCop and Knujon petitioning ICANN to actually enforce their own policies. As a result, there have been several huge busts of U.S. registrars and hosts who for years have been 'friendly' to spammers and organized internet crime -- even profiteering from it.

Now, you have the opportunity to petition ICANN to CHANGE their accreditation agreement with registrars toward cleaning up criminal activities. This is VERY important.

READ the article at SafeNetting with instructions on how to submit your letter to ICANN. There are a number of ways you can submit -- but any of them will reinforce the sentiment from internet users that we're fed up with spam and online crime and it's time to do something about it.

Join me in spreading this word. Tell your User Group members. Link to the article. Copy this in your listserve or discussion forums. NOW is the time we need a public outcry to clean up the internet.

Thanks for reading...

You can also keep up with the efforts to curb spam and cybercrime by reading the news at Knujon and HostExploit.com. And, if you're paying for an email service other than SpamCop, then it's time to switch to SpamCop and take a stand against spam.
