Medical Mac

Back in the middle ’80s, when I was active with the Boston Computer Society, the Mac Group had a medical SIG named MediMac. Unfortunately, that was also the name of a piece of medical software. The SIG had to change its name.

Meanwhile, the Mac is still popular with medical folks. Here are are a few web sites that specialize in it.

AppleQuack.com with the subtitle of: “Medical productivity and software for the mac.” This is the one I came across first. The particular page I saw was the one entitled “Medical Software I couldn’t do without.”. The home page of this site has an article on how surgeons use Evernote.

Applequack is written by Cris Cuthbertson, also known as DrCris, a medical doctor in Melbourne, Australia.

In the comments section of this site, a couple of other stories are linked including:

Core Biomedical Research Software and Web 2.0 Tools at Highlight Health 2.0.

Over at Symtym the author takes a historical look at Mac software.

MacPractice appears to be the place to get software to run a medical office on the Mac and it is the developer of MediMac.

BTW – MediMac’s software is now freeware. You can get it here.
