What a moving experience!!

August 1st, I moved from one apartment to a new one about 300 feet away. I called AT&T to move my Uverse service to the new apartment. Uverse is a fiber optics Internet and TV service similar to FiOS service from Verizon.

The big difference between the two is that FiOS is fiber into the home while Uverse runs copper from the curb into the home. FiOS in my mind is a better service if it is available. But that is the big problem with both these services. They are not necessarily available in your neighborhood.

Initially AT&T told me that Uverse was not available in my new apartment. Since they had also told me the same thing about the old apartment I was skeptical and asked them to check. Ten days later, I still couldn't get a response so I ordered DSL. The fastest DSL I had available was 1.5 megabytes compared to the 3.0 I was getting.

They told me that the DSL would be available on the 15th. Then I got the DLS "modem" in the mail and it said that my service would start 3 days after the date on the page in that box. So on the 12th I tried to connect.. no luck.

On the 15th, an installer came to my home and told my wife we were ready. Also on the 15th, the customer service person from Uverse called me to tell me that Uverse was available to my new place. It could be installed at the end of the month. (With 6 megabyte speeds.) They even made some special deals to make up for the delay.

Meanwhile I couldn't get the DSL to connect. Finally I got it to start up on the 24th. For some reason MacOSX wasn't detecting the ethernet port as being active.

So today, after nearly a month of abandoning Fred to do all this work here, I am back. Hopefully this will mean a more regular updates. Although, my "part time" job has been almost full time since July 11th. But that to seems to be coming into place.

Please let Fred know how much you appreciate all his hard work on our behalf.

Looking forward to hearing of your experiences.
