Improve your digital photography by getting superior shots to start with, moving images to storage media safely, and learning a new presentation method at Washington Apple Pi’s “Images from Camera to Presentation” talk at Luther Jackson Middle School, 3020 Gallows Road, Falls Church, Virginia on August 23, 2008, at 9:30 a.m. This month’s presenters are three members of Washington Apple Pi, the Washington DC area’s largest and oldest Macintosh user group.
Ed Miller teaches techniques to create superior images in difficult lighting situations, specifically what to do before the shutter is gently pressed. Imagine creating a outstanding photograph of Uncle Dick wearing Aunt Eudora’s wig jumping over the campfire with Aunt Eudora, in flowery apron and wooden spoon in hand, in pursuit. Using Ed’s methods today will save you in your older years from squinting at a dark, out-of-focus snapshot to recall the campfire hijinks and Aunt Eudora’s merry chase so you may laugh out loud once again.
Lawrence Charters introduces best practices for getting each of the wonderful images we captured in our digital camera, in good as well as difficult light, to photo library for printing and other appropriate media for archival storage.
Paige Counts, our third presenter, shows a different method to present of our photographic gems building a mosaic using the MacOS X software. It is a cool thing to do when you have a Mac and lots of pictures. MacOS X is a great way to create a photographic adventure summary of a visit to the Eastern shore or the National Zoo.
Planned meeting agenda starts with usual Question And Answer period for members to get assistance with their technical and other questions. A few minutes are spent on club business prior to Kitty’s Koffee Klatsch (break). The meeting resumes with the featured program of the day Images from Capture to Presentation
There is a half hour Papa John’s pizza lunch break to have a bite to eat and socializing before breaking out into three, concurrent special interest groups(SIG) session. One SIG focuses on basic Macintosh skills for those who either need a refresher or those new to Macintosh computers. This month’s New To Mac SIG answers attendee questions. The iLife SIG demonstrates how to make slide shows from an iMovie. At the third, the Genealogy SIG has a show-and-tell forum, where members share what they have done or learned in past few months. Undoubted there will be tips to aid others with genealogy software or in their research.
The meeting is free and open to the public. The public is invited to join Washington Apple Pi for this exciting learning experience. Attend morning session or an afternoon SIG or both, as your schedule permits.
