Hypercard Redux

I was in Boston in 1987 when Apple announced Hypercard for the Macintosh. At that point there was only the MacPlus, the Mac II and the MacSE to run it on.

Over the next several years, users, especially educators used Hypercard to create many useful applications. It even used links that were very similar to what later became available on the Internet. But Bill Atkinson had insisted that Apple distribute it for free and development on it lagged. There were a couple of clones developed. Supercard being the one I remember. Eventually Apple dropped it from distribution.

In reading the latest newsletter from Small Dog, I was amazed to find out that TileStack has been announced. It is in beta and it is one of those “cloud” application.

It looks very much like HyperCard except that it runs on the net. It appears that it will run Hypercard stacks, but I haven’t confirmed that yet.

The beta is by invite, but you can sign up for an invite as well as watch videos about the production.

See it here.

BTW – I really don’t think this requires a Mac. As an Internet app, it should be available to any browser.
