Shoot Photos & Edit Like a Pro!

Lesa Snider King, noted graphics expert, teaches how to take our photos to the next level at Luther Jackson Middle School, 3020 Gallows Road, Falls Church, Virginia, on April 26 at 9:30 a.m at Washington Apple Pi, a DC metro area Macintosh User Group's monthly meeting.

Shoot Photos & Edit Like a Pro!

Whether you use a digital SLR or a point-and-shoot, Lesa Snider King, noted graphics expert, will show tried and true techniques for getting better shots into the camera, plus what to do with them afterwards. Lesa will demonstrate using Adobe's Photoshop Elements 6 to resize images from you camera for various uses, as well as how to create some of the most popular photo effects including soft vignettes, collages, partial color, gorgeous grayscale, select retouching secrets and more.

Lesa Snider KingLesa has made it her mission to teach the world to create and use better graphics. She is a stock photographer, and chief evangelist for iStockphoto. She also is founder of the creative graphics website GraphicReporter.com. She authored Lynda.com's Graphic Secrets for Business Professionals. She wrote the Macintosh Photoshop Elements 6 review for MacWorld, giving the software four and a half mice (on a five mice scale). Since 2003, she has assisted New York Times columnist, David Pogue, with graphics for his Missing Manual books. In addition to being a corporate trainer and instructing at many industry conferences, she is co-host of the weekly "Your Mac Life" internet program.

The meeting opens with Apple Pi's usual Question and Answer period at 9:30 a. m., followed by club business and a coffee break. Lesa teaches how make the images a professional would be proud to have in his/her portfolio. General meeting concludes with raffle of Macintosh Photoshop Elements 6 software. After short lunch break for lunch – buy your own or bring your own – Pi sessions continue with three concurrent special interest group (SIG) meetings. Groups meeting on April 26 are iLife SIG, Novice Mac User SIG, and a yet-to-be-announced SIG meeting.

Come to the General Meeting with Lesa Snider King, and stay in afternoon for a special interest group session. Busy on Saturdays morning, then come from SIG meeting at 1 p.m.

Directions from Capital Beltway, I-495: Take the Washington Beltway I-495 to US Route 50 West (Arlington Boulevard), exit 50. Make your way to the inner roadway, staying right at the Y to go north on Gallows Road (Virginia Route 650). Drive through the first stop light at Gatehouse Road (school house is on your left). Make left near end of school property, driving back along north edge of property past doors 8 and 9 to far end of parking area closest to the tennis courts. Walk between building and tennis courts to door 7. Greeter will welcome you and direct you to our meeting room. and walk up hallway's incline to multi-purpose room on your right. Directions from Dunn Loring Metro: Take Orange subway line to Dunn Loring Metro station. Board the Fairfax Connector 401 bus with destination sign Franconia-Springfield Metro. Travel on bus about seven minutes, disembarking at Gatehouse Road. School is on northwest corner of Gatehouse Road and Gallows Road. Use school's main entrance and follow signs to Apple Pi meeting. Alternatively, in nice weather, it is a pleasant walk along Gallows Road from Dunn Loring Metro to the school. Busses are on approximately hourly intervals on Saturdays.
