.Mac for the iPhone?
At Roughly Drafted, Daniel Eran Dilger has speculated about how Apple could use .Mac to support the iPhone AND replace revenue that it is loosing to iPhones that are not on revenue sharing phone networks.
Of course, the .Mac subscription itself will bring in revenue, but why would an iPhone user want to subscribe?
Some of the features are already available:
Automatic setup for .Mac email
Direct posts photos to a .Mac Web Gallery
Podcast and RSS news feed reading on the iPhone is already provided by an online service Apple offers at no cost, hosted from the .Mac domain.
Some new possibilities:
Network Data Synchronization:
File Access and Sharing
Back To My Mac
Blogging
Other ideas:
hyperblogging
A .Mac Reputation System
Community Profiles
Secure Identity Services
Daniel has a lot more suggestions. If Apple only adapts half of them, .Mac would be a valuable service to the iPhone community.
