Adobe Talks about Photoshop, CS4
In his blog, John Nack of Adobe talks about 64 bit Photoshop. That is, how it is coming to Windows with CS4 and why it is not going to be 64 bit on the Mac.
To paraphrase he says: Adobe generally keeps features in the Windows and Mac versions at a level of parity, but that wasn't possible this time around because of a change Apple made last year to the Mac's programming underpinnings.
It was announced at WWDC last June that Leopard would NOT contain 64 bit Carbon support. Previously the beta versions had contained it. Adobe has developed Photoshop using Carbon. Now they will have to switch to Cocoa. That would create an unacceptable delay in releasing CS4. Therefore, they had to drop support of 64 bit on the Mac.
