I sure you have seen popups that tell you: “You have malware on your computer”, download now to check your system. Of course, the warning tells you about PC files so it is a give away that it really isn’t looking at your Mac. Now, there is one that does talk about Mac files.
Of course it is no more legitimate than the PC ones. Once the utility, MacSweeper is installed, it will find something and tell you if you pay for the software it will clean your system. it will do this periodically until you purchase. But that doesn’t mean it will actually do anything.
