Been hankering to grab some music? If you got an 20,000 tune iPod, and filled it with iTunes, it will cost you $20,000. Napster has announced it will shift its entire download sales catalog to the MP3 format in the second calendar quarter of 2008 with low monthly downloads…

Napster MP3
All single track and album sales will be made available exclusively in the MP3 format, which will be compatible with virtually all MP3 players and music phones around the globe including the popular iPod and iPhone. Napster is the first music subscription service featuring major label content to announce a 100% adoption of the MP3 format for download sales.
Unlike music files that come with copy protections embedded, MP3 files are compatible with most portable music devices, including Apple Inc.’s market-leading iPod media players, Microsoft Corp.’s Zune and mobile phones that play music. Unfortunately, if you’re a Mac user, you’ll need to abandon Safari and use FireFox — the big announcement screen shouts when you log in using Safari.
“The ubiquity and cross-platform compatibility of MP3s should create a more level playing field for music services and hardware providers and result in greater ease of use and broader adoption of digital music,” Chris Gorog, Napster’s chairman and chief executive, said in a statement.
The company’s offerings include “Napster”, the most popular, on-demand music subscription service in the world; “Freenapster”, a unique Web experience offering free, on-demand music legally in the U.S
