Explaining the Macintosh Surge

David Pogue has written an article with the above title on his blog.
In starting his blog he lists some impressive stats for Apple, the Apple products and MacWorld Expo.
These include at Expo 475 exhibitors, 100 more than last year. 50,000 attendees, 10,000 more than last year.

2007 Macintosh book sales were up by double-digit leaps over the previous year.

Mac shipments in the fourth-quarter 2007 grew 28 percent over the year before…
Use of the Mac’s Web browser, Safari, climbed 32 percent in 2007.

Apple sold 2.16 million Macs in the last quarter–a new company record.

He question is why such a shift in fortunes in 2007. He stirs up quite a conversation in his forum and he and his readers bring up several interesting possibilities.
