Learn how Leopard purrs

Washington Apple Pi invites you to hear what is required to install the new Leopard Operating System and listen to how it will purr on your Macintosh.

Topics of the day are Leopard specifications, upgrade requirements and cost; how to prepare for OS X upgrade; as well as what is new including the Time Machine as well as upgrades to previously existing components like Finder, Calendar, Address Book, Apple Mail, spotlight, and the Safari browser.

"Leopard really purrs", declares Pat Fauquet, Vice President of Apple Pi Programs. "Performance is improved. I am more productive for same number of minutes of wall clock time. That second or more delay by Safari prior to painting full screen is gone. Come to the Pi meeting and I'll share other Leopard tips that will make you purr."

Program also includes two special short presentations. First is Steve Robeson's annual holiday shopping list for Macintosh lovers as well as that very special gift to get for Macintosh, too. The second presentation features shows how Apple Pi will be using Adobe's Connect Meeting interface for tutorials in 2008, initiating new tutorials you can participate from the comfort of your own home.

Meetings, open to the public, start with half hour Question and Answer session, followed by featured presentations.

This month is packed full of mini-presentations about features first installers of Leopard among Apple Pi members. They will cover what is new, what works well, and what to avoid. Leopard continues after the coffee break. Meeting concludes with raffle and club business, adjourning about 12:30 p.m. Members and guests are invited to join Apple Pi Leadership team for buy-your-own lunch at Chevy's, a nearby eatery.

Driving instructions from Capital Beltway, I-495: Take the Washington Beltway Route 495 to US Route 50 west (Arlington Boulevard), exit 50. Make way to inner roadway, staying right at Y to go north on Gallows Road (VA route 650). Drive through first traffic light (Gatehouse Road) and past main school building on your left. Make a left turn near the end of school property. Follow roadway around north end of school past doors 8 and 9 to far end of north parking area. Walk along west side of building (near tennis courts) to entrance door approximately 30 feet from multi-purpose room. Greeter will let you enter building and direct you to sign-in crew. From Dunn-Loring Metro Station: Take Orange Line to Dunn-Loring station, located at Interstate-66 and Gallows Road. Board the Fairfax Connector Bus 401, destination sign says "Franconia-Springfield Metro" to intersection of Gatehouse Road and Gallows Road (about seven minutes). The school is in northwest corner of this Intersection. Enter school at main entrance, following signs to Apple Pi meeting in multi-purpose room. Alternately, on a nice day, it takes about 15 minutes to walk south from Dunn-Loring station on Gallows Road to the school. Busses are roughly an hour apart on Saturdays.
