Zune Plays Catchup?
This week Microsoft announce new versions of it media player the Zune. It has copied Apple's iPods and then stepped up the features a notch.
The new hard drive based Zune is now at 80 gigabytes. In this case the feature set includes allowing users to wirelessly synchronize the devices with music on a personal computer. (Something that iPod users have been asking for. It also includes the ability to play FM stations.
Additionally, Microsoft introduced its first ram based Zunes. The flash version of the Zune with four gigabytes of storage and one with eight gigabytes will sell for $149.99 and $199.99, respectively. A Zune with an 80 gigabyte hard-disk drive will sell for $249.99.
You can also still share music with other Zune owners, but apparently they have dropped the term "squirt."
Of course, the big handicap is that the users still have to deal with Microsoft media store and I believe it is still doing credits instead of dollars.
