AT&T's Uverse
This month I signed up with AT&T's Uverse service. It is their response to Verizon's FiOS. Instead of 100% Fiber, Uverse is Fiber to the curb and then copper into the home.
Besides cable quality video and phone service it has DSL Internet service. This includes 300 Megabit download and 100 Megabit upload speeds. The package I got includes voicemail, but not unlimited domestic long distance. Premium movie channels, up to 4 TV connections with one having a DVR. It is also possible to hook up 4 computers.
The service is generally pretty good, although I have had trouble contacting their customer service. But that is because I gave them a Grand Central telephone number and their answering computer doesn't know how to forward my call.
One neat feature is being able to schedule video recordings from a Yahoo web site so you can do that from anywhere.
The only real problem I have is that if I reboot the computer without restarting their router, my iMac won't reconnect until I do so. They of course are telling me I should contact Apple over this issue.
For Windows machines, they also provide security software. They did recommend that I turn off the Mac OS X Firewall, which I did. But that shouldn't be necessary.
After nearly three weeks I am generally satisfied, but would like to work out these minor issues.
