As you probably known, one of the big problems with the Mac over the years has been Font files. If they became damaged, all kinds of problems could happen. Developers developed software to repair those files. Later we had similar issues with Microsoft Word documents and we had programs that were designed with those files specifically in mind. Now the pro-video market is coming up with many of the same issues.
Of course, if a movie file becomes corrupted at any stage of the production, it can cost the production a lot of money.
So Aero Quartet has announced its Movie Repair Service for Video Professionals . This service tells us that it has achieved a success rate for recovery of the file of 90% within 48 hours. they do this with a new approach that combines a free diagnostic, an extraction using automated techniques, reconstruction and quality control, all performed by an expert video “hacker”.
Aero Quartet is the developer of the Mac OS X movie editor SimpleMovieX. This new service provides an option not previously available to get a movie production schedule back on track.
The free diagnostic sets the expectations of coverage and quality of the repair. They then send out a sample section of the file before accepting payment for the balance of the file.
Aero Quartet has already developed repair techniques for a wide range of formats and codecs including DVCHD Pro, ProRes 422, DV, H264, JPEG. Of course, this list grows longer every month.
