Since a hammer shattered the face of Big Brother in 1984 and awoke the world to a completely different way of computing, Macintosh User Groups have been there. Educating, inspiring, and empowering users, MUGs worldwide have helped millions of users. MUGs have brought together people from completely different walks of life and bonded them together in their common love of the Mac.
MUGs have gone far beyond the boundaries of computing by creating charity events, community development projects, and educational programs for under-privileged children.
I personally have been a member of four MUGs through the course of my love affair with the Mac. It was a MUG member that first taught me about the real elegance of my little SE. It was at a UCLA MUG that I first saw Kai's Power Tools. Within a year I went to work with Kai at HSC Software. At a user group meeting in Northern California last year I was introduced to the amazing Quartz Composer. Now that I am half of a tiny independent Mac developer I decided it was about time I said "thank you" for all the ways that those MUGs had bettered my life.
