Pulling Live Data Into Google Spreadsheets

I have been using Google's Docs & Spreadsheets applications more and more. Now,
ResearchBuzz has told me about this blog posting on how to "link" data.

Blogger Philipp Lenssen notes the syntax is =GoogleLookup with two variables; to find the population of Boston you could use this syntax:

=GoogleLookup("boston"; "population")

When you paste that into a Google Spreadsheet, Google will load the results (in this case with a citation year.)

The ResearchBuzz writer said: "I couldn't get everything to work -- I tried a pounds-to-Euros automatic conversion and it would never come out right. Google has a fairly extensive docs page but I suspect they're not covering everything."

I suppose that once you get it to work, you don't have to check the links for validity, but until you are sure it is working it would require a manual test.
