Online backups
User group presenters and officers are always telling their members to backup their files. Of course, it doesn't cover all the bases if the only backup is kept on the premises.
There are now a number of web sites that will let you back up your files on line. Some charge a fee, but most offer at least some space for free. One of the oldest ones is Xdrive. It is now owned by America Online. Xdrive now offeres 5 Gigs for free. Or 50 gigs for $9.95 per month. (Which also gives you phone customer support.) You must have an AOL mail account, but they will sign you up for that as well.
Another is Mozy. Mozy offers 2 Gigs for free, and a $4.95 monthly charge for unlimited space. On their web site, they even list features comparing themselves with Xdrive, Carbonite, SOS Backup and iBackup. Carbonite also offers unlimited service for $49.95 per year. The others are quite a bit more expensive. However, Carbonite does not yet offer a Mac client. The clients are used to upload the file, in some cases continuously.
