Freehand - R.I.P.

I remember when Adobe bought Aldus and we wondered how long Freehand would survive...

Then Altsys, the developer, owned by an Apple Corp of Dallas member, took it back. Then sold it a short time later to MacroMedia. (Barely had time to release a product with their own packaging.) Of course, MacroMedia itself is now a part of Adobe.

So unsurprisingly, Adobe has declared Freehand dead.

Registered users of Freehand can "upgrade" to the CS3 version of Illustrator for only $199. Additionally, Illustrator CS3 has the ability to import Freehand 10 & MX files.

I have been using Freehand since 1997 or so. Although when Adobe bought Freehand, I knoew they wouild discontinue it, the news comes as a sad truth.

I just hope they make illustrator less bloated and add multi page support within the same document.
