Democracy Player
"Democracy. The only video player you need." Or so it says on the web site. It was well recommended on Computer America within the past couple of weeks. (I listen to the podcast, so I am not sure where it when it was actually broadcast.)
Democracy Player is free, open source, and built by a non-profit organization.
What makes it so unique?
1. It will play virtually any video -- Quicktime, WMV, MPEG, AVI, XVID, and more.
2. It will subscrie to video RSS feeds, podcast or video blogs. It comes with over 1,000 free channels with the built-in Channel Guide.
3. It can search YouTube, Google Video, Yahoo Video, and other video sites, then download and save videos. and other sites.
4. It will play highdef and HD in full screen.
5. It is a BitTorrent client.
It is a free. It is in version 0.9.6 for Mac OS X in Universal format and is available for Wndows and Liux.
Sounds like a great resource for AppleTV.
