Crossover
We have heard about Boot Camp, VMWare and Parallels to enable the operation of Windows applications on Macs, but what if you don't want the expense of purchasing a copy of Windows as those solutions require.
CrossOver is available for running at least some Windows applications or games on Linux or Mac OS machines.
Wine is a free implementation of the Win32 API and CrossOver is a commercial version of Wine. They both allow aplications to run as if they were native on Mac OS or Linux.
The main difference between Wine and CrossOver is in the time needed to install the program. Also there is a difference in cost. Wine is free ( here ) and CrossOver is sold for $59.95. Of course that is much cheaper than purchasing a copy of Windows for the alternative options.
