More than 20 personal productivity and industry update workshops will highlight the 14th Southwest User Group Conference being held July 13-15 at the San Diego Town & Country Resort & Convention Center announced Judy Taylour, program coordinator. Officers from more than 60 computer user groups located in California, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico and Texas will be attending the conference to learn how to make their local organization's programs and activities more useful to new and long-time computer users.

Starting the Saturday morning program on a note of interest and intrigue, Andy Marken, president of Marken Communications, will be the breakfast speaker discussing the on-going issue of Digital Rights Management (DRM) and a forecast of how the issue will probably be resolved. During his presentation entitled “DRM - How Will The Show End?,” the 20-year veteran of the content production and storage industry will explain how the recent content protection hacks and press coverage will probably benefit consumers in the long-term and in a far different manner than the hackers anticipated.

In addition, the two days of educational and informational programs will include practical application how-to sessions:

* Using Skype services
* Contrasting, comparing Macs, PCs
* Tricks on getting the most from your photos, video
* Using a flash drive for mobile computing
* Future trends in removable, portable storage
* Changing face of identity theft
* Better digital photography
* Understanding, getting ready for Vista
* Digital photo albums

Industry leaders including AMD, Pinnacle Systems, Corel, Microsoft, Trend Micro, Verbatim, Migo and other firms will be on hand during the event to demonstrate and discuss some of the newest hardware, software and services to attendees. A special vendor faire will be held late Saturday afternoon culminated by product drawings.

Open to anyone interested in sharing ideas, experiences and finding out more about using their computers for home and business, the annual event is designed to help user group officers and members gain information and assistance in expanding and improving their local area computer programs and activities.
