Thrift Mac
I have long been an advocate of doing things as inexpensively as possible. This doesn't mean in my mind to avoid high in products, those are often the most efficient way to get things done.
But, I also feel that we should give free and/or open source software a chance. This web site tries its best to keep up to date with such software. The lead story on the home page on Friday was:
"Make it from scratch"
"Using freeware is one thing, but how about making your own? MIT has a Mac freeware app called Scratch that allows you to do your own programming. It’s pretty basic stuff, but you have to start somewhere..."
It has the following categories: Games, Internet, Text, Graphics, Utilities, Organizers, AudioVideo, Etcetera and iPod.
