Vista Problems Plague

According to NewsMax.com, retailers are already experiencing problems with Windows Vista. Then the security holes allow hackers and criminals easy access...

Misleading Microsoft statements... First of all, from Microsoft's view point is the quote made at the Microsoft "launch" party at the Times Square Nokia Theater: "I have no intention to convert. In fact, my daughter is buying a Mac." But perhaps more importantly was the misleading statements made by Microsoft.

Microsoft says that any computer older than two years may not be able to handle Vista. While in fact, some computers bought last December will not be able to handle the full version of Vista.

One reporter found that his newer notebook would only run the limited Home Basic version. And that 20 programs installed on the machine would have be deleted or simply would not start.

Some reports were made of physical damage to the computers after installing Vista. You really should read as much as you can before installing it on your PC.

Holes in Vista

So, yes, it's been out two days now, and already the security holes, hacker breaches and flaws are rolling in . The media is abuzz with much ado about various problems but most prominently, the "speech-recognition" flaw.

Paul F. Roberts reports:
"The honeymoon ended early for Microsoft’s Vista operating system, after word spread Wednesday about a flaw that could allow remote attackers to take advantage of the new operating system’s speech-recognition feature. "

Of course, Microsoft has a ready fix! They're recommending users disable the speaker or microphone, turn off the speech-recognition feature or shut down Windows Media Player if they encounter a file that tries to execute voice commands on their system. Sort of defeats the purpose, eh?

Not much use to Mac users, but our Windows readers may want to check it out...
