According to blogs.barrons.com coverage of the AlwaysOn conference at Stanford on Thursday, Steve Wozniak announced that he is planning to drive from the McMurdo Station in Ross Island, Antarctica, to the South Pole. (Read More)
Wozniak's vehicle -- a Hummer H1 powered by hydrogen fuel cells [Pic]
-- will be co-piloted by Buzz Aldrin, the former astronaut who walked on the moon in 1969, and the trip will be part of a research expedition slated for December of 2007. The expedition is to be filmed in 3D for the director James Cameorn.
Woz is the guy who asked the original question:
What if you combined computer circuitry with a regular typewriter keyboard and a video screen?
The result was the first true personal computer, the Apple I, a widely affordable machine that anyone could understand and figure out how to use -- in 1975!
Watch for Woz's upcoming autobiography called iWoz: From Computer Geek to Cult Icon: How I Invented the Personal Computer, Co-Founded Apple, and Had Fun Doing It.
It comes out September 25. The book, Woz said, is in the spirit of Surely You’re Joking, Mr. Feynman! (Adventures of a Curious Character) by Richard Feynman and some collaborators.
You can pre-order now to be sure you get the first copies off the press...

I'm planning on contacting the Woz to try and go along... I know it won't work, but our university could donate to the mission... we'll see.
Wouldn't you like to go along???

I absolutely LOVE this book... I'm on my second reading -- and it will take a couple of readings to get all the goodies! Bravo!
