Microsoft Announcements

Will Microsoft soon be taking off its gloves ??

Read this IMHO….

The Virtual PC and VBA for Office Announcement in the Info Manager’s Humble Opinion mean that Microsoft will be soon be taking off its gloves and will within a couple of years drop all support for Macintosh.

One of the reasons that most people thought that Apple would never switch to Intel chip is that it would mean that developers would then only develop for Windows. I can see that at least in Microsoft’s case, this will be coming true sooner rather than later.

If a Mac user needs to run Office, he will have to buy a copy of Windows and a copy of Office for Windows. Microsoft will make more money.

They don’t have to spend any money supporting the Mac at all. Of course, that also means that Apple will have to continue developing iWork to the point that at the very minimum its customers will be able to open and edit Word and Excel documents.

This may help create strong competition in the consumer market, but I believe it will kill off any chance Apple had at expanding its enterprise business. Eventually this could also cause people and schools to renew the call of using the same PC at home and in the schools that they use at work. I hope I am wrong, but this whole story could end tragic for Apple in 6-10 years, if not sooner.

Remind developers that without Apple, Microsoft would be calling the shots a lot more often.

(Please prove me wrong!)
