How to safe sleep your Mac

Some of the newer "book" Macs are supporting what Apple calls "Safe Sleep" and other systems call hibernate. Safe Sleeps allows you to be able to reboot to where you left off even if the battery dies or you remove a battery. According to this article it can also be done on some desktop machines. This is a hack and may not be safe to do you your Mac.
