Apple MacBook Woes
Fred says: "I believe I'll stay with the current technology for a while yet"
--------------------
"I'm only happy I didn't buy the MacBook Pro last week when learning it doesn't run Classic. Even more glad, this morning, as I was putting together our weekly MacBook news coverage.
I discussed the pros and cons of buying a MacBook with Happy Mayer, (Small Dog) and made the decision to buy a new Aluminum Mac PowerBook G4 instead. This will be my THIRD Mac PowerBook in the past year. You'll remember one of two PowerBooks exploded and melted down while in Africa. But I'm very pleased with the remaining, working PowerBook, so I believe I'll stay with the current technology for a while yet"
Here's what I learned this week, as woes pile up for the Apple MacBook
Mooing laptop now inflates...
APPLE'S NEW MacBook show piece is getting more negative press in user blogs. Not only does the machine get too hot, and make a mooing noise like a cow, the beast has a problem with swelling batteries. Inquirer - Harrow, Middlesex, UKMacFixIt says:
We've extensively covered an issue where the MacBook Pro's battery gradually swells, -- apparently due to overheating. (Picture)Nick Farrell Writes
Hermida says that the black version of the machine costs extra and gets easily smudged with fingerprints. It runs so hot that you can't have it on your lap.Meltdown over MacBook battery glitch
Louisa Hearn writes: Reports have emerged of a serious battery fault in some of Apple's new MacBook Pro units, one the first fruits of Apple's alliance with Intel and its new dualApple is replacing the batteries individually for those who have the problem and ask for the replacement, but there is no blanket recall yet. Note that just a couple days ago a Dell notebook caught on fire in Japan (see Laptop explodes in Japan by RickGeek)
* SEE: Suicidal Notebooks on the Loose!, by Neoseeker... with a Picture of an exploding Dell laptop in Japan, and a picture of a Swelling MacBook Battery busting out of the bottom of a MacBook. Here's the story.
Then there's the story thread of the
MOOing MacBooks
"If you've been keeping up with MacBook sans-Pro news, you may have heard something about an infamous "moo"-like noise coming from the fan."
Writing in his bog, Dan Pourhadi says "Help! My MacBook goes MOO" ... as he took his beautiful black, but mooing MacBook into an Apple Store in Oakbrook to get fixed...
Apple Genius says: "It's normal. A fan will do what it needs to do to keep the machine cool."
Apple Genius says: "Moo'ing normal" filed under: Hardware, Bad Apple, MacBook...
* WITNESS this in this remarkable 2 min 40 sec. video of the MacBook actually disassembled and mooing (With commentary)

So, I was thinking it's probably a good idea to stay with the current technology for a while.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed on my new MacBook... but I did today buy Applecare. Your article scared me too much to risk my investment!
