Adobe Lightroom

Adobe's latest approach to working with photos to compete with Apple's Aperture 1.0.

Lightroom works with photos: sorting, rating, editing, and publishing, in a nondestructive way... supposedly to complement, not replace, Photoshop. It doesn't require the latest Mac hardware to run. The beta is free.

I cannot understand why this product comes out at this time... unless it's a hedge for Mac users since Photoshop Elements 4 for Mac hasn't come along yet. It would also seem to be further fragmenting the marketplace since Elements certainly provides everything most photo users need -- well, except for the true dummies.

Download it... to install the Lightroom Beta along with an option at first launch to populate Lightroom with sample images, projects, and metadata. This is a public beta, not a final release.
